Often when there is talk of “wellness”, it sounds like something you can get, or buy. But here’s a secret for you: you don’t need to spend a lot on self-help books, or spa memberships, or “relaxing” vacations. Wellness is inside you; it is something you create. The only thing you need is to truly care about yourself, and a willingness to devote time to cultivating wellness.
Let’s explore why you need wellness in your life, and how me-time moments can bring wellness forth (spoiler: you definitely don’t have to become a Zen master):
Wellness is always (ALWAYS!) about healthy habits: cooking healthy meals with love from fresh, raw ingredients, getting 8 hours’ sleep, turning off your phone and reading a book, sticking to a skincare routine with nature-based products. On the other hand, you don’t need to give up on some not-so-healthy behaviors that you enjoy. You can still eat takeaway or binge-watch a series now and again. The trick is building healthy habits, and only indulging occasionally. Over time, you’ll find it’s a much more satisfying way to live.
For humans, feeling in control is really important to our overall feeling of health. Not trying to control others (that’s toxic!), but having a sense of self-control. This enables us to be confident we are making choices that are healthy for us in each moment. Got the sniffles? Skip your daily exercise and brew a herbal tea instead. Need a bit of down time? Get off social media, light a scented candle, and moisturize your skin! When you control your wellness, you control your life.
Your skin is a mirror to your wellness. If you are stressed and unhealthy, your skin will look dull and will be more easily irritated. Beautiful skin comes from the outside and the inside, just like wellness. Take the steps to care for your skin (the body’s largest organ BTW!) and you’ll be taking steps towards a healthier life. Make sure to use products that are sourced from nature, contain no harmful ingredients, and are formulated for your skin type. And try to make your skin care time relaxing and self-focused. No cleaning or emailing while you wait for your face mask to work!
There’s nothing difficult about wellness. The hard part is making the time and devoting it completely to yourself. Here are some simple, inexpensive ways to take care of your body and soul and boost your wellness:
Wellness is about creating me-time moments
Only you are responsible for your own wellness. And no one else can do it for you!
When you do things to take care of yourself, over and over, they become habits. And lots of healthy habits add up to wellness. Wellness is all the “me-time” moments you include in your everyday routine. You don’t need to spend a lot of time or money, but you must be truly committed to YOU. That’s the path to wellness of both body and soul.
